Snowboarding on a budget

Snowboarding on a budget

As a girl that comes from a warm country which by coincidence has one month of snow in a year, there is nothing more beautiful and special than a snowboard vacation.
The magic moment when you stand on a huge mountain, holding your snowboard, feeling and hearing the air which comes from everywhere. You are looking down and seeing the big slope that you are heading for. In this moment you feel the adrenaline ALL OVER YOUR BODY. You are connecting the board to your legs, lean forward and from that moment you can almost feel like you are flying.

It took me years until I went for my first snowboard vacation, i always believed that it is exclusive sport for rich people. But then i met a good friend, that was skiing for years. He showed me that i can plan a snowboard vacation by myself and not get poor from that.
I wouldn’t say that it’s the cheapest vacation ever, but you can totally do it on a budget if you make right choices.

So let’s get to the point, how can you plan a ski/snowboard vacation in a budget!

What you will need

* Ski pass- you can order it online from the ski resort website.

* Transportation from the airport to the resort- some ski resorts have buses that you can preorder, you can find them by searching online. Another option is looking for a train that goes from the airport to the ski resort (that’s less common). If you go with a big group you can book a transportation together from the internet. There are also Facebook groups for each ski resort where you can find partners for transportation or even ski partners, which is amazing if you go by your own.

* Accommodation
Not much different from other vacation areas.
You can book an hotel- which is pretty expensive.
the budget option will be an Airbnb apartment or find some people that rent their apartments on Facebook .

Some ski resorts even have hostels which saves a lot of money, and it’s a great place to meet ski/snowboard partners (i have been in one of those in Mayrhofen- Austria. they also take volunteers and then you can stay there and eat for free).

* Clothes
You can either buy clothes or rent them, in your country or in the ski resort. The differences in the prices usually depends on what time of the season you are going. If you are going there close to the start of the season or close to the end of the season- there will have a lot of sales. A good idea will probably be to order the clothes online.
Though if you only go for few days it’s better to rent the clothes on the ski resort itself instead of buying.

*Equipment
There are a lot of rental stores on the ski resorts.
You can book some equipment online before arriving to save time, or book it when you get there.
Pay attention that during the hot season (the crowded season- for each site it’s different) there are a lot of people so it’s better to preorder online.

* Lessons
You can take private or group lessons.
In my opinion 2 lessons in small group of 3 people will be the best option to start.
In a bigger group it’s harder to learn the technique. And private lessons will be expensive.

Hope that this information was helpful, I wish you an amazing ski vacation!☃️☃️
